What Do You Do When You're Craving Chocolate?
Article By: Joanne Cain
Have you ever had a really bad craving for chocolate and no matter how hard you try it just won't go away?
You're not alone. Chocolate is one of the most loved sugary food products of today. Here our Community Users share some of their secrets on how they beat their chocolate cravings…
“The idea of Weight Watchers is to not deny yourself...” Hannah from Kent. Substitute for a Low POINTS® Value Alternative If you have been used to enjoying chocolate on a regular basis, and then suddenly stop, your body will ask for more. Our Community Users feel that one way to satisfy this craving is to indulge a little - but limit the damage by substituting high fat chocolate for something with a lower POINTS value.
"I find that Options Hot Chocolate are the best," says Nicola from London. "They range from ½ POINTS value to 1 POINTS value depending on the flavour. I generally have one before bedtime with my milk allowance; it always satisfies my chocolate need."
"I used to eat the little mini bars of chocolate, if I had a bad craving," says Jodie from Aberdeenshire. "But I've realised that they are very dangerous, as it's so easy to overindulge without realising. Now, I've found there's nothing better to beat a chocolate craving than a Weight Watchers Rich Toffee Bar. They are delicious, and sweet and chocolaty enough to satisfy any craving... and at only 1½ POINTS value they're the best diet tool ever. Also they're so filling that you don't have the urge to have more than one!!!"
Says Susan from Worcestershire: "I just buy myself a chocolate frog and I literally go to my local shop with the exact price for one (15p!) in my pocket. I used to buy Cadbury's fun size selection bags but it was too tempting to keep in the house! The trick is controlling portion size - I used to buy just one fun size bar from Woolworths pick and mix - got some funny looks but you can!"
Take Your Mind Off Chocolate
Many of our Community Users prefer to do something or eat something to take their mind off chocolate in order to curb their craving.
"I wanted chocolate last night," says Emma from Devon. "Instead I brushed my teeth and put my pyjamas on, that made me feel like I couldn't eat anymore as I was about to go to bed. I try to brush my teeth as often as I remember now, so I stop myself from munching on unneeded things. It works for me - try it."
"I'm a really bad chocoholic," says June from Cornwall. "I'm really trying to be good at the moment. I find that when the cravings get really bad, a session in the gym does me the world of good. I always leave the gym tired but buzzing and I find that the craving has gone."
"I find that chewing sugar-free gum is a great way to kill a chocolate craving," says Joyce from Hull.
"The idea of Weight Watchers is to not deny yourself...," says Hannah from Kent. "I sometimes go out for a half hour walk, this earns you about 1 POINTS value, then if I still feel like I need some chocolate I will have it, at least then you feel like you deserve it."
"When I have a craving for chocolate I always eat a banana," says Mandy from Wales. "It satisfies my yearning for chocolate and is much less fattening."
