Insight

It is seven years since the Agency developed this highly successful initiative to provide a substance abuse education package for parents and carers of young people. During the last year 15 Insight events were held throughout the county.

Delivered at various venues throughout County Durham and Darlington, Insight consists of a two-hour ‘workshop’ style presentation incorporating a question and answer session with a panel of practitioners.

The events are organised by Durham Agency Against Crime with workshop presentations from local police, Health Promotion, the Outthere Project and local support agencies. All members of the audience are given a comprehensive pack containing valuable information and advice on where to access any support needed. Insight at 3M In October 2003, over a two-week period, five days were dedicated to delivering the Insight programme at 3M in Aycliffe where the company ensured that all their staff were given an opportunity, during working hours, to learn about the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse.

Chief Inspector Bob Glass of DAAC commented

“We do a large number of presentations for schools and organisations, but 3M is one of the first companies to allow employees to leave the factory floor to take part in this way demonstrating that this is a company that takes its responsibilities towards health and wellbeing of its workforce and their families very seriously. 3M’s should be applauded for its initiative.”

Since the Insight project began, each event has been evaluated and our records show that 100% of all audiences have found the programme to be valuable.
