Most towns have a Red Cross ambulance, which will attend to a patient in an emergency but normally has staff that are not highly medically trained. If a Red Cross ambulance considers that a specialist team is required they will call for a hospital ambulance with a doctor. There are a number of private ambulance services for which a charge is made to the patient.
